April

Professional Responsibilities

In April, I met with all parents to discuss 6th grade levels and student achievement.

In the folder of artifacts, you will see a letter sent home to all parents. I also made individual progress reports.

Sadly, I was not able to attend the Reading Olympics this year, due to the death of my father

I did spend time "coaching" the students pictured and arranged to have their T-shirts printed.

Instruction

Children enjoyed preparing for an egg drop.

They enjoyed learning physics concepts through this hands-on activity.

Classroom Climate

Before spring break, the class made bunny baskets and enjoyed an egg hunt through the woods:

Following spring break, the children helped plant a garden in memory of my dad who had died over the vacation:

After spring break, I shared a favorite story, "The North Star" with the class.

North Star

As a part of this activity, everyone made their own constellation. We will keep our sights on the stars for the rest of the school year and beyond!

Instruction

At the end of April, I planned a genetics lesson and brought my good friend, Dr. Bob to school.

Dr. Bob used his pigeons to help the children understand basic concepts, including recessive and dominant traits.

Everyone had a great time, and learned new vocabulary words too!

Math Instruction

Everyone enjoyed applying what we had learned about proportion outdoors. We measured shadows then set up equations that allowed us to find heights of trees indirectly.

We also learned some algebra.

(See worksheet in artifacts folder)

through paper and pencil practice and by playing games on-line.

Instruction

As a class, we learned more about point of view through our reading of The Rats of Nimh

Everyone loved this story.

In the artifact folder, you will find an example of a test given when we had finished the novel.

April was a wonderful month!
