The
trip to Aunt Mazie's house is 870 miles.
For
our strategy we drew a picture (number line)showing the trip to Aunt
Mazie's
house. We divided the line in half, then we drew a line 2/3 of the
way
down
the 1/2 that was left.
We
figured out that they had traveled 1/2+ (2/3 of 1/2 ofr 2/6 or 1/3)
1/2+1/3=5/6
This
meant they had 1/6 left to go.
The
distance left to go was 145 miiles.
6x145
miles=total distance they had to go
145x6=870
Hello
Reese, you explained what you did well. I also solved this problem by
using
a number line, so I was able to clearly follow your steps in solving
this
problem. You did get the correct answer for the distance to Aunt
Mazie's
house of 870 miles.
I
like the fact that you tried the extra problem. The answer is more than
17
hours. It would assist another student or someone else reading your
solution
if you explained how you arrived at your answer.
In
addition it would really help to state the actual time required to arrive
back
at Jade's house, as there is a specific time for this solution.
You
have done some good work in solving this question.
I'm
looking forward to seeing your revision with the calculations/answer
shown
for the EXTRA problem.
Sincerely,
Gus.
