February

Preparation/Planning

One of the highlights of the month was our healthy heart day. Children completed a variety of activities related to the human heart. Here they are enjoying heart healthy snacks!

Sarah's Mom joined us for the activities

Another highlight for the children was breakfast day.

Here the students are checking the location of states where breakfast foods are grown.

Instruction/Classroom Climate

During February, children created cereal box book reports.

Cereal Boxes

The day the children shared reports, we all ate a cereal breakfast together. The rubric is in the artifacts folder.

Instruction

Children enjoyed learning about Lincoln and Washington this month

In addition to finding facts online and creating character silhouettes (see artifact folder), some children built log cabins!

Instruction

During February, we continued our study of the American Revolution. Children enjoyed becoming characters for our own "wax museum."

The assignment was posted on-line,

we worked collaboratively with Mrs. Cook in the library, and student work was outstanding.

(samples are provided on a CD in the artifacts folder. To view Jordan's dv, you need i-movie on a Mac!)

Another highlight of the month was our celebration of Chinese New Year.

Classroom Climate/Instruction

We also worked hard preparing lunch bags and Valentines for residents of Safe Harbor as well as Valentines for Veterans who live at the VA Hospital in Coatesville. (see artifact folder for photos and examples)

Professional Responsibilities

In my artifact folder, you will also see sample comment sheets, student self-evaluation and learning related behaviors report sent home to parents in February.

Instruction

I also included a Chinese dragon puppet and story created by one of my students in the artifact folder.

Other professional responsibilities:

I attended class after school to learn a new web hosting program.

But in my mind, the most outstanding achievement in February was preparing lunch bags for residents of Safe Harbor.

(See photos in my artifact folder)

We also made Valentines for disabled veterans and mailed a goodie box and letters to Uncle Ricco, our adopted serviceman in Iraq.
